Women's Hoops Stumped by Southern Connecticut, 41-82

Garden City, N.Y. - In a game that never got going for the home team, the Adelphi University women's basketball team suffered an 82-41 defeat to Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday, inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.

Series History:
  • Adelphi stands at 18-15 all time (since 2009) against the Owls. Today's loss marked the ninth straight since 2022.
Highlights:
  • Lauren Beberman continued her defensive stand, posting four blocks while accounting for a pair of rebounds and two assists.
  • Madison Williams was the leading scorer on the night, using a 4-for-9 performance from the floor to finish with nine points.
  • On the glass, Me'Challe Cancer pulled down a team-best eight whle also adding seven points to her stat line.
  • Adelphi's bench contributed 19 points to Southern's 15 from their reserves.
How it Happened:
  • The Panthers (12-11, 6-10 NE10) let the game slip away around the midpoint of the opening quarter, as the Owls ripped off an 13-2 run that featured a trio of knockdowns from beyond the arc. The visitors led by 12 after the first quarter break, and were shooting over fifty percent from the floor after the first 10 minutes of action.
  • Southern Connecticut had all but two players score in the second frame, while the home team struggled to find any momentum. Still shooting at a 47 percent clip, the Owls led by at most 28 in the second, despite shining moments from Christina Sanchez, who landed a pair of triples to help her team.
  • Defensively, the Panthers did not have an answer to shut down the Owl's starters, as all five finished with double-digits. The visiting team commanded the paint (outscoring Adelphi 36-14) and capitalizing on turnovers to convert that to another 23 points.
  • Adelphi could not stop the offensive onslaught which resulted in an at-most 43 point margin to close out the fourth quarter.
