Manchester, N.H. – The Adelphi University women's basketball team faced off against Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Penmen by a final score of 44-66.
Series History:
- This matchup marked the 21st time the two programs have competed since the 2009-10 season.
- Adelphi now sits at .500 against SNHU (10-10) in the all-time series.
- In the earlier meeting this season, the Panthers were defeated, 67-54, with Gianna Chuffo (18), Kirina Azemar (14), and Madison Williams (10) all scoring in double figures.
Highlights:
- Lauren Beberman showcased her two-way ability, scoring six points while adding five steals and six rebounds
- Kirina Azemar chipped in a team-leading 19 points.
- Betton led the team on the boards with nine rebounds, while also recording three steals and a pair of block.
- Adelphi's statline was highlighted by the 25 points scored off Penmen turnovers and 30 points courtesy of Panther reserves.
How It Happened:
- Beberman got things started for the Panthers, scoring four of the team's first six points. Shortly after, Azemar knocked down a pair of free throws to give Adelphi an 8-6 lead with 5:39 remaining in the first quarter.
- The Penmen then closed the quarter on a 15-4 run, with Meghan Gordon leading the way with six points in the frame.
- The second quarter featured a slow offensive start for the Panthers, as SNHU opened on an 8-2 run. From there, the Brown and Gold traded baskets with the opposition, highlighted by triples from Azemar and Chuffo. Adelphi trailed by 16 heading into halftime.
- The Panthers were held to single digit scoring in the third, while the home team added another 10. The hosts extended their lead to 20 with 1:23 left in the frame, and advantage they held onto going into the fourth quarter.
- A relatively even frame, the Panthers used the spark of Azemar's eight points to finish with 12 in the quarter, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
