Women's Hoops Returns to Win Column with 60-29 Rout of Franklin Pierce

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team got back in the win style in commanding fashion, taking a 60-29 decision from Franklin Pierce on Wednesday evening. 

Series History: 
  • Today's game marks the 24th meeting for the pair of teams since the 2009-10 season.
  • Adelphi holds a 14-10 advantage in the overall record, including the last four and the second this season.
  • The Cats are 7-3 in the last 10 matchups and are 9-4 inside the Center for Recreation and Sports. 
Highlights: 
  • Madison Williams came off the bench and finished with 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field with two knock downs from three-point range. She also added a pair of steals to help the team come within one of their season high mark (21). 
  • Christina Sanchez was responsible for 11 points while dishing out four assists and adding a trio of steals of her own. 
  • Lauren Beberman led the team with nine steals, eight of which happened in the first half of action. 
How It Happened: 
  • The home team put together a 20-6 opening quarter with nearly forty percent shooting from the field. All players on the floor in the first 10 minutes of action scored, led by Me'Challe Cancer's seven. 
  • After a 14-point swing that concluded at the 1:14 mark, the Panther offense went cold in the second as the team combined for just 15 points. Both sides only recorded three baskets from the floor as the hosts still held a 17-point advantage at the break. 
  • In the third and fourth frames, the Panthers shot over 40 percent, which included a 54 percent clip in the final quarter as they outscored the Ravens 15-8. 
  • Adelphi commanded the paint, scoring 38 of their 60 inside while also using 19 points from the bench to reach their victory.

  • The women's team will be on the road this weekend for a conference matchup against Saint Anselm College on Saturday, January 31. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m.
