Jackson's Season High 24 Points Propel Men's Hoops Over Franklin Pierce 83-71

Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi men's basketball team got back on track on Wednesday night, taking down Franklin Pierce 83-71. An early extended 14-8 run put the Panthers up 12 and from there, they never led by less than double digits.

Series History:

  • Adelphi (14-6, 6-4 NE10) is now 13-10 against Franklin Pierce since 2008 and holds a six-game win streak. The last matchup between the Panthers and the Ravens was a 65-63 Adelphi win on December 6. Al-Fatir Connor won it for the Cats with a driving layup in the final seconds.

Highlights:

  • Mason Jackson scored a season-high 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting. The senior shot 7-of-10 from the free-throw line while grabbing six rebounds. Jackson now sits 26 points away from 1,000 for his collegiate career.

  • Al-Fatir Connor poured in 18 on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor and shot a season-best 3-of-4 from three-point land.

  • Dayshaun Walton scored 15 and led the team in rebounds with nine.

  • Zakari McQueen had a nice night coming off of the bench with 13 points.

  • Patrick Burke recorded a career-high five assists.

  • Jarnel Rancy recorded two blocks, putting him just two away from the all-time Division II record. He scored four points and grabbed seven rebounds.

  • Luke Egan tallied the first points of his career.

How It Happened:

  • The first five minutes of the game were tightly contested with Adelphi up only by four.

  • A Matthew Price jumper sparked an extended run for the Panthers, putting the home team up 16 in just seven minutes of play.

  • Adelphi's lead grew to as many as 20 with 1:11 remaining in the first half. A Franklin Pierce three with 48 seconds on the clock put the score to 41-24 Adelphi at the half.

  • Patrick Burke kicked off the second half with a three-pointer to put the Cats back up 20.

  • Hot shooting from the Panthers put them up by as many as 26 right after the 12-minute media timeout.

  • Franklin Pierce tried to claw its way back into the game, ending the game on a 10-4 run but it would be too little too late as Adelphi won 83-71.

Up Next:

  • The Panthers will hit the road again as they take on conference-leading Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon. Tip from Manchester is set for 3:30 p.m.
