Women’s Basketball Drops Road Contest at No. 21 Bentley

Waltham, Mass. – The Adelphi University women's basketball team fell to last year's conference champions and the No. 21-ranked Bentley University Falcons, 67–49, on Saturday afternoon.

Series History:

  • The two programs have faced off 24 times dating back to the 2005–06 season.
  • Bentley (12-2, 8-0) now holds a 17–7 advantage in the all-time series over the Cats.
  • Adelphi (9-7, 3-6) split its two matchups with the Falcons last season, and stood as the team's only loss until the Elite Eight.
Highlights:
  • Victoria Morales led the Panthers in scoring, tallying 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 33 minutes of action.
  • Me'Challe Cancer added 12 points, converting 7-of-8 attempts from the free-throw line, while grabbing six rebounds.
  • Lauren Beberman posted seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.
  • Christina Sanchez chipped in nine points and three steals.
How it happened:
  • Adelphi got off to a strong start offensively, with Adout Ring scoring five points in the first quarter. The game was knotted at 9–9 with 3:23 remaining before Bentley closed the period on a 7–0 run, highlighted by a triple from Cassidy Yeomans.
  • The Falcons continued their rhythm on offense while holding Adelphi to just five points in the second frame. Bentley carried a 24-point lead into halftime, creating 16 second-chance points compared to Adelphi's zero.
  • Out of the break, the Panthers showed fight, as Morales and Beberman combined for 10 points in the third quarter. Adelphi trimmed into the deficit but still trailed by 17 heading into the final frame.
  • Bentley shut down any momentum the Brown and Gold created, extending their lead to 26 with under five minutes remaining. The teams continued to trade baskets, but with the score out of reach, Adelphi was unable to make another push as time expired.
  • Adelphi continued its trend of strong second-half efforts, outscoring Bentley 35–29 over the final 20 minutes while also holding an 11–5 advantage in fastbreak points.
Hear from coach Jackson:
  • "Bentley is a great team, and we knew we had to stay disciplined and execute at a high level to win. I thought we did a great job of both in the second half. Right now, the key for us is putting together a complete 40 minutes on both ends of the floor."
Up next:
  • The Panthers will return home on Tuesday, Jan. 27, as they welcome Franklin Pierce University to the Center for Recreation and Sport. Adelphi will look to snap a six-game skid, with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
