Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Set Back by SNHU, 54-67

Garden City, N.Y. - Despite a team leading 18 points off the bench for Gianna Chuffo, the Adelphi University women's basketball team skidded to a four-game losing streak following a 54-67 loss to Southern New Hampshire on Saturday inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.

Series History:
  • After a pair of wins a season ago, the Panthers fall to 10-10 overall against the Penmen since the 2009-10 season with Saturday's loss.
  • In the last 10 outings, three have been decided in double overtime and a pair in overtime.
Highlights:
  • Chhuffo came off the bench to record serious minutes and finished wiht a team-leading 19 points.
  • Gamila Betton's nine rebounds was a team-high and was accompanied by four steals.
  • Kirina Azemar also came off the bench to contribute 14 points and Madison Williams had 10, as Adelphi's reserves were responsible for 47 of the Panther's 54 points.
  • The team went 13-for-16 at the free throw line and led the second chance game with 14 points compared to SNHU's 12.
How It Happened:
  • SNHU was hot from the floor in the opening half, posting field goal percentages of 61 and 53 between the first two quarters, respectively. The Penmen knocked down a pair of three pointers to jump out to a seven point as late attempts toward the basket didn't fall for the home team and they trailed by nine following the opening frame.
  • Adelphi struggled to stop the Penmen in the second, who worked out to their largest lead of the game - 19 - with 5:58 left on the clock.
  • Coming out of the break, the Brown and Gold scored the first nine points unanswered to come within three of Southern New Hampshire. Six of those points came off the hands of Azemar, but the visitors quickly regained their momentum. Exactly a minute later, the Penmen worked back out to a double figure lead with a seven point run.
  • Trailing by 15, Adelphi recorded its poorest quarter from the floor, and the damage was too great to overcome.
Up Next: Adelphi will hit the road for a two-game road trip starting Wednesday, Jan. 21 at Southern Connecticut.
