Garden City, N.Y. - Coming off a training trip in Florida and a tough tri-meet to start the week, the Adelphi University swim programs picked up a pair of victories on Friday afternoon, defeating St. Joseph's University - Long Island.
The women captured a one-point win (80-79) while the men took a 73-65 decision inside the Danzi Athletic Center.
Men's Highlights:
- Took first in five of 10 events.
- Both 200 medley relay squads were responsible for the first and second best swims in the lanes - the A squad finished in 1:40.04, nearly 25 seconds faster than the group from St. Joseph's. Ryan Kakimseit, Zachary Taylor, Eric Slavin and Nils Foerster were the fastest medley of the afternoon.
- Adelphi saw the top three swims in the 1000 freestyle, including a lane-leading 10:47.13 finish from Connor Singer.
- Santiago Souberbielle took first in the men's 400 individual medley, touching the wall in a time of 4:31.43 and was followed over 10 seconds later by Singer.
Women's Highlights:
- Took first in six of 10 events, with the 200 freestyle relay going in as an exhibition.
- Started the meet off with a 29-second win in the 200 medley relay. The squad consisted of Laura Moran, Isabella Change, Kelly Tula and Natalia Brulinski and clocked in at 1:59.33.
- Adelphi's duo of Tula and Aizel Pusing went 1-2 in the 1000 freestyle while Angelina Fazzino, Maya Bieganowski and Sophia Bouyer went 1-2-3, respectively in the 200 freestyle race.
- Moran neared her seed time of 26.07 in the 50 freestyle by finishing at 26:93 to take first overall.
Adelphi will host Assumption University on Saturday, Jan. 24 and celebrate the members of the senior class prior to jumping in the lanes.
