Garden City, N.Y. - After picking up an early win over Pace in non-conference action last month, the Adelphi University women's basketball program fell 51-62 to the Setters in league action on Tuesday, inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
Series History:
- Tuesday's matchup marked the 39th overall since the 2002-03 season and the second meeting this season, with the result being flipped from December.
- The Setters hold the advantage in the overall record, as Adelphi is 17-22 all time against Pace (since 2002). Adelphi has now lost 10 of the last 11 contests.
Highlights:
- Gamila Betton was Adelphi's leader in scoring as her 4-for-7 performance from the field saw her finish with 10, as she also led the team with six rebounds.
- Lauren Beberman returned to action for the Brown and Gold, accounting for five rebounds, four points, a pair of blocks and two assists.
- For Pace, Ciara Collins recorded her 1,000th career point, finishing with a team-best 28 and capping off the double double with 11 boards. Her 12-13 performance at the free throw line bolstered the Setter offense, as they finished 20-for-25 at the charity stripe.
How it Happened:
- After being down at-most seven in the opening quarter, the Panthers clawed their way back to a one-point deficit, with the help of a Madison Williams three-pointer under a minute to play. Adelphi used a perfect performance at the free throw line in the opening 10 minutes of action to remain within one of Pace.
- The Setters wasted no time finding a groove, finishing the second quarter with 50 percent shooting from the field while Adelphi turned cold. Pace outscored the Cats 19-6, using a 17-2 run from the 7:14 mark to put the home team back 14 at the halftime break.
- The visiting team worked out to their largest lead of the contest at 18 with 4:42 left in the third quarter, and held onto an 11-point margin at the conclusion of the frame. Victoria Morales landed a trey - her first of the game - to bring the game back within single digits, but a trio of free throws from the Setters put them back ahead by double-digits.
- Despite scoring 11 points off turnovers in the last frame, the Panthers still could not find a way to stop the consistent scoring from Pace, who also put up their lowest scoring output of the night.
