Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

McQueen Sets Record And Records 1,000 Kills as Volleyball Splits on Day 2

Garden City, N.Y. - Macarty McQueen etched her name in the record books on Saturday evening, when her 29th kill of the nightcap set a new program record for single game kills, topping Laura DeAngelis's mark from 1997. The senior also recorded her 1,000th kill in a Panther uniform along the way. The Adelphi University volleyball team proceeded to fall in five to Post University, following an earlier victory - and first win of the season - over Belmont Abbey.

Game One: Adelphi 3, Belmont Abbey 1
Following a late Friday evening loss, the Panthers bounced back for their first victory of the season over Belmont Abbey 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-21) in the teams' first ever meeting.

The Crusaders managed to clear set one by a narrow two-point decision, but the home team felt a momentum shift that carried them through three straight sets to seal the deal in four.

Madeleine Chaapel was responsible for a new career best mark in kills, finishing with 20 in the victory with an impressive .326 hitting percentage.

Game Two: Adelphi 2, Post 3
In the second match of day two at the Opening Roar Tournament, Adelphi battled in a five-set showdown on Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell to Post University, 2-3 (25-20, 23-25, 24-26, 25-15, 13-15).

The Panthers (1-3, 0-0 NE-10) started strong, capturing the opening set 25-20 behind steady offense and disciplined play. The Eagles responded with a gritty effort, edging Adelphi 25-23 in the second and narrowly taking the third frame 26-24 to seize a 2-1 lead.

Adelphi regrouped in the fourth, dominating with a 25-15 set win to force a decisive fifth. In the final set, both teams traded momentum, but Post closed the deal with a 15-13 finish to secure the match.

McQueen's 29 kills is a career-best and now stands as the program mark to beat for single match kills, as she completed the double-double with 24 digs. Teammate Ana Westerich nearly set a new program record of her own as she tallied 59 assists (record set by Kambel Fiser at 62 in 2024). Chaapel notched her fourth consecutive match with double-digit kills, accounting for 16 in the loss.

Adelphi will pack up and head west to play in the Up North Tournament, hosted by St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth starting on Sept. 11.
