Bridgeport, Conn. — The Adelphi University volleyball team rode a strong opening and closing surge to a 3-1 victory over the University of Bridgeport on the road Tuesday evening at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium.
After easing to a first set victory, the Panthers (8-6) fell into a seven-point deficit, but clawed their way back to a 25-17 win to stand at 2-0 for the match. Momentum quickly shifted in favor of the Purple Knights, who used several miscues down the stretch to seal a 25-22 set three win, to force another frame. Adelphi worked its way out to a 12-7 advantage - a lead they nearly let up - but a kill from
Macarty McQueen sparked a 5-2 scoring run to keep their opponent at bay.
A block from
Melana Bigelow and
Delaney Kiendra kept the game in control for the Panthers with Kiendra getting the last word to take the final set, 25-20.
