Garden City, N.Y. - Consistent hitting and strong serving was enough for the Adelphi University volleyball team to take three straight sets from Mercy University on Tuesday evening, marking the team's fifth straight victory.
The win moves Adelphi (7-6) into the positive, after a perfect weekend brought them even in their overall record.

Delaney Kiendra and
Mackenzie Casey all hit .350 or better with the latter posting five kills on seven attempts to sit at .714 for the match. At the service line, the Panthers commanded the ace count, accumulating 11 to Mercy's two. Defensively, the Cats were led by libero
Autumn Moore, who matched her three-set high of 18 digs.
Back-to-back service aces for
Ana Carolina Westerich allowed the home team to jump out to a five-point advantage in the opening set. After trading a few points, Adelphi strung together three more points to continue keeping their opponent at bay. McQueen was responsible for the final two points of the set, as a kill and service ace of her own handed the Panthers a 25-16 victory.
Playing catch up in the second, Adelphi used a 15-4 run to jump out to a nine point lead. It was a heavy lift for the Mavericks to overcome, but they didn't go down with out a fight. The home team was able to take advantage of several miscues down the stretch however, resulting in a 25-17 win.
After starting out with the first five points of the eventual final set, Adelphi slipped and let the Mavs storm back with six points of their own, putting the frame at a stalemate. A
Katie Brokes aces made it 14-9 in favor of the Brown and Gold, a lead they kept extending until it was 22-12.
Madeleine Chaapel got the final word for the Cats as her strike concluded the third at 25-16.
Westerich finished with 31 assists and led the team with nearly half of the team's service aces.
The team is back in actino on Thursday, Sept. 25 when they travel to take on the University of Bridgeport in non-league action. Opening serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
