Wilmington, Del. - The Adelphi University volleyball team finished off an undefeated weekend at the Wildcat Regional Invitational, securing a three-set win over Holy Family University on Saturday evening inside the WU Athletics Complex.
Kill-leader
Macarty McQueen once again topped the box score, accounting for 16 kills behind a .387 hitting percentage.
Delaney Kiendra accounted for seven kills with a single error all match, to complete the contest with a .600 hitting percentage to her name.
The Panthers (6-6) used timely hitting and aggressive serving to hand the Tigers (7-3) just their third loss of the season.
It was the Brown and Gold's 5-1 run in the middle of the opening set that kept the Panthers ahead for good- as a pair of kills from
Madeleine Chaapel and a block courtesy of
Delaney Kiendra and
Ana Carolina Westerich put the Cats up by four. The last four points came off the hand of McQueen, as the senior accounted for seven in the opening set alone.
The Tigers were quickly trailing in the second set, as Adelphi worked out to an 8-1 advantage and a lead they never relinquished. Holy Family was held to a sub .100 hitting percentage as a team as the Panthers accounted for 14 kills with just three errors.
Holy Family saw the momentum swing in their favor to start the third - and ultimately final - set, as they jumped out to a 9-1 lead. Service aces from Tessa Lafrenier and Westerich helped chip away at the deficit, and a McQueen kill sparked a six point run that put the game in their hands at 15-14. A game of back-and-forth ensued with both teams reaching a stalemate at 20.
Sarah Munn recorded an ace down the stretch that put the Cats ahead for good - as Adelphi was able to take advantage of several Tiger miscues to conclude the match in three sets.
Adelphi will host Mercy University on Tuesday, Sept. 23 - opening serve is set for 6:00 p.m. inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
