Wilmington, Del. - The Adelphi University volleyball team moved back into the win column with a pair of victories over Roberts Wesleyan and Wilmington University on Friday, at the first day of the Wildcat Regional Invite.
The Panthers (4-6) doubled-up on sweeps, taking down the Redhawks and hosts Wildcats in three straight sets.
Game One: Adelphi 3, Roberts Wesleyan 0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-20)
Adelphi jumped out fast in the first and second sets, showing both offensive consistency and defensive discipline. Roberts Wesleyan could not keep pace in the early exchanges, as the Panther front line forced errors, delivered kills, and controlled the tempo. The third set saw a more competitive fight from the Redhawks in the early going, but Adelphi closed it out decisively to avoid letting the momentum slip.
Delaney Kiendra set the tone for Adelphi, posting 14 kills, just one attack error, and a .591 hitting percentage. The fifth year was also repsonsible for adding a pair of blocks at the net as opposite Elena Covic led the team with three. Macarty McQueen and Madeleine Chaapel each added eight kills, while Autumn Moore led the defense with 18 digs,
Game Two: Adelphi 3, Wilmington 0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-14)
In the nightcap, the Panther offense used an impressive .343 hitting percentage to steal the show, more than doubling the kill output of their opponents (44-19) as the front line also managed a 6-4 edge in blocking.
The hosting Wildcats were unsuccessful in stringing together any true runs to build momentum, as Adelphi continued to find the floor both from the offense and the service line.
Katie Brokes and McQueen both added a pair of aces to the Panthers' total of six.
McQueen led the offensive charge with 16 kills on .517 hitting, while adding 14 digs, as teammate Chaapel added double figures with 10.
Mackenzie Casey was efficient with seven kills and contributed three total blocks, whiel Ana Carolina Westerich orchestrated the offense, dishing out 36 assists to keep the attack moving.
Adelphi opens up day two on Saturday with an NCAA Regional foe in Daemen University at 11:00 a.m. The teams last met in the regional of 2023, where the Wildcats stole a 1-3 victory in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
