Men's Tennis Earns Program's First Ever NCAA Tournament Win Over UDC, 4-0

Flushing, N.Y. — After winning their second consecutive Northeast-10 title, head coach Rebecca Fakas and the Adelphi men's tennis team returned to the court for the first round of the NCAA East Regional against #5 District of Columbia.

The Panthers got off to a fast start with the no. 2 pairing of Marko Jovanovic and Spyridon Papageorgiou grabbing a 6-2 win. The top Adelphi duo of Reece Farrow and Hugo Munoz Reinoso would earn the Cats the elusive first point of the match with a 6-3 victory.

Three-time NE10 player of the Jovanovic then earned the first singles point for Adelphi after the Firebirds no. 1 was forced to retire in the second set. Papageorgiou had a dominant 6-0, 6-3 win in the no. 5 match and conference rookie of the year Andrea Albiero sealed the deal for the Panthers after a 6-2, 6-4 victory.

The Cats earned the program's first NCAA Tournament victory and have advanced to the next round, taking on #1 Queens. The match is scheduled for a 5:30 PM start in the QC Tennis Bubble.
