Garden City, N.Y. - With the help of six players accounting for three or more points each, the no. 9 Adelphi University women's lacrosse program took an 18-6 decision from Assumption University on Tuesday evening, to remain flawless at Motamed Field.
Leading the way once again was
Ashley Kolomechuk, who's four goals and two assists saw her finish with six points.
Payson Hedges,
Rita Sefransky and
Julia Foppiano each recorded a hat trick in the win as the trip combined for 13 points altogether.
After opening the game with three straight goals, the home team let in a pair from the Greyhounds, but still held on to a 5-3 advantage at the conclusion of the first frame. Assumption tallied the opening score in the second, but it was Sefransky's first of the game that led to a seven-goal run for the home team, straight into the halftime break.
Kolomechuk and Sefransky each scored with less than a minute remaining in the first half to give the 'Cats an eight goal advantage. Reigning NE10 Defensive Player of the Week
Sonny Lionetti and
Danielle Becker each added four caused turnovers, aiding in Adelphi's seven-goal run as Assumption was only 1-for-4 in clear attempts throughout the second.
The Greyhounds only gave up two to Adelphi in the third but had some work to do with just 15 minutes left in regulation. Hedges's early tally in the fourth sent the clock to running time, which made it a hard task for Assumption to overcome the deficit. The Panthers poured in a 4-1 effort to keep their undefeated streak at home alive.
Adelphi will trip to Southern New Hampshire on Sunday, Apr. 13 for a 1:00 p.m. matchup.
