No. 9 Women's Lacrosse Edges SNHU, 17-16

Manchester, NH - In a high-scoring affair, the no. 9 Adelphi University women's lacrosse program held on for a 17-16 decision over Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday as the regular season winds down.

Ashley Kolomechuk led the Panthers (11-3, 7-1 NE10) with a career-high nine points, courtesy of five goals and four assists. Julia Foppiano and Alexandra Leggio each also  ontributed a hat trick, with the former adding four helpers to her line. Marielle Colalillo was all over the draw, collecting 16 of Adelphi's 23 wins in the circle.

The teams combined for 11 goals in the opening frame with the home team holding a one-goal edge after 15 minutes of work. Adelphi managed one more than the Penmen (5-8, 1-6 NE10) in the second to put the matchup at 10-all heading into the locker room.

Coming out of the break Southern New Hampshire managed a 4-2 frame that put them in the lead with one quarter left in regulation. After trading goals to start the fourth, Leggio and Kolomechuk put back the next three, to take a lead with 3:12 to go. SNHU's Katelyn Hadden - who finished the game with six goals and six assists - notched the equalizer on a free position attempt. After a draw control win for Colalillo and a shot on goal for the junior, Kolomechuk found Amanda Lee for the eventual gamewinner with just over a minute to play.

A shot at the buzzer could have sent the game to overtime but a stop from Jillian McFadden sent the Panthers back to Garden City with the victory.

Adelphi returns home this week for its penultimate regular season contest on Wednesday, Apr. 16 to take on the University of New Haven. The matchup has strong playoff implications as the Chargers remain undefeated after taking down Pace on Tuesday.
