Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Timely Scoring Caps Come From Behind Victory for #10 Women's Lacrosse

Garden City, N.Y. - After trailing by two at halftime, the no. 10 Adelphi University women's lacrosse program stormed back in the second half to secure a 15-12 victory against Saint Anselm College on Saturday to remain undefeated at home.

Prior to the action, the program celebrated the members of the graduating class - Amanda Lee, Kristen Birney, Madison Marchetta and Danielle Becker.

The Panthers (9-3, 5-1 NE10) did not have an answer in the early going to the offense that the Hawks showed up with, and were down by three after the opening quarter of action.  Ashley Kolomechuk registered her first of three in the first frame, but it was over ten minutes until the home team would find the back of the cage again.

Between the pipes for the visitors, Elizabeth Driscoll ultimately finished with 14 saves and was stopping doorstep shots out of the Panther attack.

Julia Foppiano and Marielle Colalillo scored within two minutes of each other to cut the deficit to two, but the teams traded goals after that with the Hawks still ahead by a pair of tallies.

The third period was a high scoring affair as both teams put in five goals, with Saint Anselm getting the last word with seven seconds left on the clock. Down two, the hosts found their groove at 12:29 that started with a Payson Hedges - Rita Sefransky connection that sparked a six-goal run for Adelphi. The Panthers took their first lead of the game on Colalillo's man up strike at 9:59 and never looked back.

Kolomechuks' hat trick tally was the eventual gamewinner and Lee found the back of the cage for Adelphi's last of the contest. Saint Anselm registered one more goal at 3:02 but could not successfully take the ball down field for the rest of the game, as the Panther streak extends to 20 wins all time against the Hawks.

Adelphi will be back at Motamed Field on Tuesday, Apr. 8 when they host Assumption University at 5:00 p.m.
