Manchester, NH - The no. 2 Adelphi University men's lacrosse program had it's win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon, falling 6-9 to no. 5 Saint Anselm College in a battle of the unbeatens.
It had been 392 days since Adelphi men's lacrosse lost a game, dating back to March 9, 2024 and marks the first time in program history that the Hawks defeated the Panthers.Ā
Struggling to get the offense going, Adelphi (10-1, 4-1 NE10) were held scoreless for the entire first half, despite 11 total shots (only four on goal). Saint Anselm (8-0, 5-0 NE10) scored three goals in a span of three minutes to get things going - but were met with three big stops from
Dylan Renner to stop the offensive onslaught as the opening frame expired.Ā
Turnovers continued to plague the Panthers throughout the second, while the home team managed one more score before the half to head into the locker room up 4-0.Ā
Braden Donnellan finally broke the silence for the road squad at 9:22 in the third with a snipe to the top left corner of the net, past netminder Finn Granara. After
Noah Gibson added the team's second tally, Donnellan bookended the three-goal streak with his second to cut the deficit to one. The Hawks had answers however, and tacked on two more before the quarter came to a close and maintained a two-goal edge after
Vincent McDermott also found the back of the cage.Ā
Trading goals to start the first, Adelphi was running out of time to win the battle of the undefeated programs. Heading into today's contest, the Panthers, Saint Anselm and the University of Tampa all remained without a loss yet this season.
Six of Adelphi's eight shots that were onĀ goal were stopped by Granara in the closing frame, but the hosts avenged the National Semifinal loss from a season ago and made history in the process.Ā
The Panthers are back to work on Friday, April 11 when they host Assumption University at 6:00 p.m. Following the game, the program will recognize the accomplishments of the members of the graduating class.Ā
