Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

#5 Men's Lacrosse Takes Down #20 Assumption, 16-5 On Senior Day

Garden City, N.Y. - With weather not unfamiliar to the Adelphi University men's lacrosse program brewing, the no. 5 Panthers took down no. 20 Assumption on Friday evening, in the team's penultimate regular season home game, 16-5.

A 6-1 opening frame all but sealed the deal for the home team as the Massachusetts crew were unable to find an answer on offense.

Netminders Shane Corcoran and Dylan Renner, who entered today's game as third and fourth (respectively) nationally in goals against average, both picked up 13 saves each, and Renner likely remains near the stop with Assumptions' single digit scoring.

The Greyhounds (9-3, 4-3 NE10) scored the final goal of the first and the opening tally of the second as things got started for Adelphi on the slow side. Six goals in the first and just two in the second - courtesy of Noah Gibson and Braden Donnellan - saw the Cats leading 8-2 at the halftime break.

Kyle Lewis netted his hat trick score to start the third quarter, as a trio of Panther goals were met with back-to-back tallies from the Greyhounds. Strong defense gave the visitors six turnovers in the third alone, as the winds and the rain picked up. Gavin Herzog drove the ball down the field to notch his first assist of the season, on Adelphi's final strike of the frame.

Trailing by nine heading into the fourth, Assumption was held scoreless for another 15 minutes, making a comeback insurmountable.

Lewis and Donnellan each recorded six points in the win as Michael Durnin added his sixth game this season with a hat trick or better, accounting for four goals.

Adelphi hosts Pace University on Tuesday, Apr. 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Motamed Field.
