Indianapolis, Ind. - For the third consecutive year, the Adelphi University men's golf team has been selected in the field of teams competing at this year's NCAA Atlantic/East Regional. This year's tournament is being held at Whispering Woods Golf Club in Erie, Pa., hosted by Gannon University.
The Panthers were one of ten teams to be chosen out of the East region, with the other half coming from the Atlantic. The Brown and Gold were slated as the fifth-best team in the East, good enough for second in the Northeast-10. Play from the Keystone State will commence on Thursday, May 8 and continue through Saturday, May 10.
"We are very excited about returning to the NCAA Regionals for the third straight year. We are continuing to strive towards our mission of becoming the first Adelphi men's golf team to reach the National Finals," said head coach
David Mattana.
Earlier this season, Adelphi finished runner-up at the NE10 Championships, only 15 strokes behind champion Southern New Hampshire. The Cats also hold two team championships in Division II tournaments this spring, first at the Saint Anselm Florida Invitational followed by the Charger Challenge, hosted by Dominican (N.Y.).
High finishes in fall tournaments such as the Granite State Opener, hosted by SNHU, or third in the home Panther Invitational earned the squad their competitive reputation.
Last season, the Brown and Gold finished eighth at the Regional, then hosted by West Liberty University in Wheeling, W.Va..
Filip Wetterqvist found his way at the Division II National Championships as an individual however, after finishing in a tie for fourth.
Mattana and the Panthers are staying ready, wrapping up play today against Farmingdale State College in a dual match hosted by Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, N.Y..
