Baseball Gets Back in the Win Column, Defeats CSI 12-9

Staten Island, N.Y. — Head coach Bill Ianniciello and the Adelphi baseball team took a break from conference play when they traveled to the College of Staten Island on Tuesday night.

In the top of the first a Giancarlo Rengifo hit by pitch and Jack Tate single set the table for Joe Pellegrino with two outs as the first baseman drilled a three-run home run to give the Panthers an early 3-0 lead.

The Adelphi offense would keep on going in the second with singles from Rengifo and James Eden. A Pellegrino walk loaded the bases and Matt Ryan would come through with a single to right field to make the game 5-0. Jack Wishner followed that up with a single himself to put the Brown and Gold up six.

The barrage continued in the third after the Cats added two more thanks to a walk, hit by pitch, balk and wild pitch. Staten Island got on the board in the bottom half with three runs, but a Wishner double made the score 9-3.

Staten Island would slowly creep back, scoring five runs in the sixth and seventh to cut the Adelphi lead down to one.

With a new pitcher on the mound for the Dolphins and one out, Wishner doubled to right center and then Johnny Catuosco reached on an error. C.J. Picone would single to load the bases and pinch-hitter Alex Rende doubled to right field to score two more. Eden then had an RBI groundout to get the score to 12-8.

Cam Letourneau shut the door on the home team as the Cats took home a 12-9 win.

Pellegrino led the squad with three RBI, followed by Wishner, Ryan and Rende who all had two.

The Panthers will return to the field and to NE10 play on Friday when they travel to New Haven at 3:00 PM.
