Cary, N.C. — The Adelphi baseball team headed back to the field on Sunday morning  to take on St. Thomas Aquinas after splitting a doubleheader the day before. 

Pitching was the name of the game early as John Carver was able to settle down early along with the Spartan's pair of pitchers. 

STAC got on the board first, capitalizing on a hit by pitch and stolen base to go up one after a double. Carver got back on track after allowing his lone run of the game and struck out the next two batters. 

Only one run was scored through five innings until the top of the sixth when the Panthers were able to knot it up at one. After James Eden reached on an error, Joe Pellegrino moved him along with a single. Jack Wishner then came up with two outs and was able to drive Eden in with a single up the middle. Carver would put down the Spartans one, two, three in the bottom half of the inning and finished the day with one earned run and three strikeouts. 

The seventh inning was when the game got away from Adelphi. After not being able to capitalize on having runners on the corners, St. Thomas Aquinas got to the Panther bullpen, scoring five runs in the inning. The Spartans would add three more in the eighth and Adelphi fell, 9-1. 

Wishner was the best Panther at the plate, going two for four and recording his fourth RBI of the season. 

Head coach Bill Ianniciello and the 'Cats will return to the field on Tuesday at 3 p.m. to host Queens at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.
