Keene, NH - With the help of eight points from sophomore
Ashley Kolomechuk, the no. 6 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team opened the Northeast-10 Conference slate with a 20-5 victory against Franklin Pierce University on Saturday.
In addition to Kolomechuk's eight points, three other individual student-athletes recorded four or more points, as
Rita Sefransky,
Marielle Colalillo and
Payson Hedges accounted for six, five and four, respectively.
The teams traded the first two sets of goals, and ultimately took the lead and never looked back on a Kolomechuk unassisted strike at 8:38. With 3:04 left on the clock in the first, Adelphi (3-2, 1-0 NE10) rattled off the next 15 goals through the third quarter.
In that stretch of scores, the Cats held the hosting Ravens scoreless as they ran up the score, reaching running time with 7:54 left in the second.
Rookies
Michaela Burke and
Rory Meehan both collected a trio of draw controls, ultimately helping the 9-0 second quarter for Adelphi. In the end however, the teams were evenly matched a the draw circle, both responsible for 14 each.
All three goalkeepers saw time for the Cats, including freshman
Alexandra Stec who was responsible for five stopes in just over six minutes of work.
The Panthers return to non-league action on Wednesday, Mar. 12 when they trek to Roberts Wesleyan for a 4:00 p.m. meeting.
