Cary, N.C. — After picking up their fourth straight win on Friday, head coach Bill Ianniciello and the Adelphi baseball team headed back to the field to take on Saint Anselm.
Game 1: Adelphi 4, Saint Anselm 3
Jack Carr started the game for the Panthers and put together a very nice performance. Carr finished the afternoon with five innings pitched, allowing no runs and striking out six.
Adelphi lit up the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third. After a Bryan McCleary walk, Jack Tate smoked a double to left field to give the 'Cats a 1-0 lead. Greyson Pizzonia moved Tate over in the next at bat which was followed by an Alex Rende hit by pitch. Rende then stole second and a wild pitch would score Tate to put Adelphi up two.
The bats were quiet for both teams until the sixth when the Panthers added on one more to their lead courtesy of an Albert Ramos single.
Saint Anselm got a run back in the top of the seventh and then struck for two more to tie the game in the eighth.
Zach Rovner kept the Hawks quiet in the ninth, which would set up an Adelphi walk off. McCleary and Tate set the table with back to back singles and with two outs, Alex Rende was the hero as he drove in McCleary for the winning run.
Game 2: Saint Anselm 7, Adelphi 2 (F/7)
The Panthers picked up where they left off in game two, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after a Joe Pellegrino sacrifice fly.
However, unlike in game one, the Adelphi bats would go cold. Saint Anselm would tie the game in the bottom half of the first and then struck for two more runs after a home run in the third.
In the fifth, Johnny Catuosco got the game within one after a one-out RBI single, but the 'Cats were unable to capitalize with runners in scoring position.
Saint Anselm took advantage and went up 7-2 after back-to-back home runs in the bottom half. That is where the score would stay as the Hawks won 7-2 in seven innings.
