Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Falls Twice to Rollins

Winter Park, Fla. - In two games that took different turns, the Adelphi University softball team dropped both legs of its doubleheader on the road against Rollins College on Friday afternoon, by the final scores of 2-1 and 8-0.

Game 1: Adelphi 1, Rollins 2
The earlier action consisted of a pitchers dual, with five combined hits throughout all seven innings.

Runs started to come across in the first inning, as a sacrifice fly put the Tars on the scoreboard immediately. Not to be outdone, Angelina Kellogg's single in the top of the second was followed by a throwing error to score graduate Julianna Sanzone.

Despite the leadoff batter getting to second base in the next frame, starter Jenna Plue retired the next three to keep the game in a deadlock. Both teams combined for no hits in the third and fourth innings, with three total baserunners.

After securing the first out in the bottom of the fifth, Rollins' Grace Germer took Plue deep to break the tie as the Blue and Gold scored their second and ultimate winning run.

As the lead stood reachable, the 'Cats went without a baserunner over the final six outs, ending the matinee.

Game 2: Adelphi 0, Rollins 8 (F/6)
The nightcap saw the exact opposite looks in offensive pace, as seven runs came across by the end of the second.

It only took two batters for the Tars to come around after an RBI double. Starter Lily Kenney surrendered one more following a groundout that advanced a runner on third base to end the first.

The next frame was where the offensive explosion came into play, with a two-run home run highlighting an inning that ended with five scores. Before the jack, the hosts had accumulated runs in a variety of ways from a sacrifice fly to a wild pitch. Utility player Tori Parente entered the circle in relief to end the second.

After going hitless over the first five innings, the 'Cats mustered two together in the sixth inning courtesy of freshman Meghan Fisher and junior Jordyn Pasqueralli. Unable to keep the chain going, both were left on base by inning's end.

Rollins' Claire Long knocked an RBI single up the middle in the bottom half of the frame, ending the day of softball due to the run rule.

Head Coach Katie Apostolopoulos and Adelphi will be back in action tomorrow (Mar. 8) when they travel to take on University of Tampa. First pitch from the Cigar City is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
