Baseball Wins Fourth Straight Over Wilmington (Del.), 3-1

Cary, N.C. — Head coach Bill Ianniciello and the Adelphi baseball team headed down to the Cary Invitational on Friday afternoon and took on Wilmington (Del.) in game one with reigning NCBWA East Region Pitcher of the Week Dawson Montesa on the bump.

Montesa worked another gem, going seven innings, allowing only one run and striking out nine.

The Wildcats lone run came in the top of the fifth. Three singles in a row led to a Wilmington 1-0 lead, with the second run being gunned down by Greyson Pizzonia

Adelphi was quiet in the fifth, but in the sixth jumped out to a 3-1 lead. Pizzonia set the table with a leadoff double, then Alex Rende drove him in with his second triple in as many games. Albert Ramos got Rende in after a sacrifice fly. Joe Pellegrino had the wheel turning again for the Panthers offense when he smacked a double to center field. Johnny Catuosco was the next batter up and scored Pellegrino on a single up the middle.

Pitching from Montesa, and Zach Rovner would shut the door on Wilmington as Adelphi won its fourth game in a row, 3-1.

Pellegrino and Catuosco both went 2-4, Rovner earned his second save of the season.

The Panthers will return to the field Saturday at 11 a.m. for the opening game of their doubleheader against Saint Anselm.
