Baseball Bounces Back, Sweeps AIC in Doubleheader

Springfield, Mass. — The Adelphi baseball team returned to the field on Saturday afternoon for its second doubleheader in as many days against AIC.

Game 1: Adelphi 6, AIC 0
Reigning NCBWA East Region Pitcher of the Week Dawson Montesa got the start for the Panthers in game one and once again was dominant. The right-hander finished with a line of 7.0 innings pitched, zero runs allowed, three hits, three walks and nine strikeouts.

The scoreless start from Montesa gave the Adelphi offense some room to breathe as they were able to plate four runs in the fifth inning thanks to RBI from Jack Tate, Johnny Catuosoco and Jack Wishner

Joe Pellegrino added on to the lead in the sixth with an RBI single. Solid relief pitching from Michael Tufo secured a 6-0 Adelphi win.

At the top of the order, James Eden went 2-5 with two runs scored and Albert Ramos went 3-4 from the seven spot.

Game 2: Adelphi 11, AIC 5
While runs were scored at a premium in the first game, they came in bunches for both teams in game two.

The Panthers started off the scoring in the second inning, plating three after a Wishner RBI groundout, L.J. Bohne RBI single and a wild pitch.

AIC would get a run back in the fourth after a solo home run. In the seventh, Adelphi went up 5-1 after a Matt Ryan two RBI single but the Yellow Jackets came roaring back.

With the game on the line in the bottom of the seventh, AIC scored four runs to tie the game and send it to extra innings.

While most teams would be deflated after a blown lead, the Panthers were not deterred. Bohne started the party off with a one out double, followed by an Eden single. An Alex Rende bunt down the first base line scored Bohne and a pair of wild pitches scored the next two runs. The scoring did not stop there as three walks set the table for Wishner who drove in two more runs to give Adelphi an 11-5 lead.

Jacob Lee would slam the door as the 'Cats took both games on Saturday.

Adelphi returns to the field on Wednesday when they travel to play Kutztown at 3 p.m.
