Baseball Drops Non-Conference Tilt to Kutztown, 9-4

Kutztown, Pa. — After a four game split with American International this past weekend, head coach Bill Ianniciello and the Adelphi baseball team headed to Kutztown for a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon.

In the first inning with two outs, Jack Tate recorded the first hit of the day with a single to center field. Cleanup hitter Johnny Catuosco followed that up with a single himself and freshman Matt Ryan hit the Panthers' third single in a row, driving in Tate to give the 'Cats a 1-0 lead.

Kutztown came right back in the bottom half, scoring after a leadoff double, fielders' choice and an Adelphi error.

The Panthers went down one-two-three in the second and Kutztown made them pay. After a walk and two singles the Golden Bears hit a grand slam to go up 5-1.

In the third, fourth and fifth innings Kutztown would tag the Adelphi bullpen for four more runs while the 'Cats could only muster two hits.

The seventh inning would see Giancarlo Rengifo tally his first two career RBI on a single to left field and Albert Ramos would add another run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly but it would not be enough as Adelphi fell, 9-4.

Anthony Rigogliosi and Rengifo led the team with two hits each while Cam Letourneau, C.J. Forman and Jonathan Fallacaro were effective out of the pen, allowing only twoearned in this sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth.

The 'Cats will return to field in Saturday for an NE10 doubleheader against Southern Connecticut State. Senior day will be held before game one.
