Alexandria, V.A. – Kicking off the top of the spring semester, two Adelphi University student-athletes were able to participate in the Delta Sigma Pi (DSP) Leadership Conference from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2.

Delaney Kiendra and Lauren Jaskier both represented the University's chapter of DSP, a co-educational business fraternity that develops both career and leadership skills.

Kiendra, a senior on the volleyball team, and Jaskier, a sophomore on the golf team, participated in multiple workshops and breakout sessions at the conference, each aimed at a different aspect of leadership.

"We had the opportunity to attend sessions focusing on Marketing the Chapter, Chapter Engagement and Involvement, and Coaching and Mentoring Mindset," explained Jaskier

Upon returning from the conference, both of these student-athletes knew that they could apply the leadership skills and approaches from the conference and apply them to their team and within the department.

“These skills include creating a sense of belonging within our communities, building a positive culture in order to increase engagement, giving everyone a voice at the table, and rooting a team mentality through trust, credibility, and authenticity,” said Kiendra.

She continued by adding that “We recognize that true leadership is not just about individual success but about uplifting those around us to create a lasting impact.”

Delaney Kiendra Award

At the conclusion of the conference, Kiendra was honored with the Regional (Empire Region) Collegian of the Year. The award recognizes an individual for their contributions, achievements, participation, and personal character.

This is such a great honor within the fraternity itself, and I am so honored that my chapter even thought of me to receive this award.”

In addition to the individual award,  Adelphi’s chapter of DSP was awarded for most outstanding community service, as well as the R. Nelson Mitchell Outstanding Collegiate Chapter award.
