Baseball Unable to Complete Sweep of Pace, Falls 3-2

Garden City, N.Y. — Head coach Bill Ianniciello and the Adelphi baseball team were back at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field on Sunday afternoon, looking a sweep of Pace.

After back-to-back quality starts, John Carver was back on the mound for the Panthers and worked a one, two, three first inning. There was nothing going for Adelphi in the first, but they were able to open up the scoring in the second inning.

Consecutive singles from Albert Ramos and Jack Wishner set the table for Jack Tate, who singled himself down the right field line, scoring Ramos.

Both offenses would be kept quiet until the fourth inning. Pace was able to tie the game after a double, sacrifice bunt and RBI groundout but the tie would not last long. Leadinf off the bottom of the inning, Joe Pellegrino crushed his sixth home run of the season to put the Panthers back on top.

The Setters got to Carver again in the fifth and six innings to take a 3-2 lead. The right-hander would finish the game with a line of 8.0 innings pitched, eight hits, three earned runs and eight strikeouts.

Adelphi's best opportunity to tie the game was with a runner on in the bottom of the seventh. Wishner singled to right field with Alex Rende on first, but unfortunately Rende was gunned down at third.

Pace went on to win the game, 3-2, denying the 'Cats of a conference play opening sweep.

The Adelphi baseball team will return to the field Tuesday when they host Staten Island at 3 p.m.
