Ryan Hits First Career Home Run But Baseball Falls to CSI

Garden City, N.Y. — Head coach Bill Ianniciello and the Adelphi baseball team took the field for a standalone contest against the College of Staten Island on Tuesday afternoon.

The Panthers got on the board first in the bottom of the second when Matt Ryan crushed the first home run of his collegiate career to right field.

Adelphi's bats would be quiet from there and the Dolphins would take advantage. Staten Island struck for seven runs in the top of the fourth after a string of hits and then scored three more in the fifth to take complete control of the ballgame.

The Brown and Gold tried to get back in the game in the bottom of the fifth scoring three after a Ryan RBI walk and two RBI L.J. Boone double, but that would be it for the home team.

In the last three innings of the contest, the Adelphi bullpen struggled, allowing 11 more runs as CSI won the game, 21-5.

Ethan Snyder made his season debut in the game while C.J. Forman made his collegiate debut. The freshman only needed to throw two pitches to force a double play to end the top of the ninth.

The 'Cats return to conference play on Saturday when they host Assumption at William J. Bonomo Field for a doubleheader starting at noon.
