Colchester, VT - With one hundred career point milestones from both
Kyle Lewis and
Braden Donnellan, the no. 2 Adelphi University men's lacrosse team played to a 19-4 victory at Saint Michael's College on Saturday, in the team's Northeast-10 Conference opener.
With six points and four points respectively, Lewis and Donnellan each stand at 102 career points each. In the win,
Ryan Bauco also added a four-spot while
Noah Gibson accounted for his fifth game this season with at least three goals.
After trading goals in the opening frame, Bauco's tally at 7:18 sparked a four-goal streak for the Panthers (7-0, 1-0 NE10), from which they never looked back. Holding the Purple Knights (4-1, 0-1 NE10) to just a single goal in both of the first two quarters, Adelphi's offense added another trio of tallies in the second - two courtesy of Lewis - to hold onto an 8-2 lead at the break.
The third frame was all Adelphi as they poured in another eight goals, with 11 shots on goal. St. Michael's netminder was responsible for a season-high 16 saves while the Panthers'
Dylan Renner logged eight between the pipes.
The visitors were destructive on defense, causing 15 of Saint Michael's 24 turnovers in the contest. The Cats were led by
Ries Bower, who accounted for five and collected four ground balls, while adding two assists.
The home team was responsible for the first and final goals of the fourth, but the deficit was already too great to overcome.
Luke Mackin netted his sixth goal of the season while
James Hegel and
Vincent McCabe connected twice for the other two goals of the frame.
Adelphi men's lacrosse returns to NE10 action on Tuesday, Mar. 18 when they head to American International. Last week, the Yellow Jackets picked up several votes on the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association weekly poll.
