Four Run Third Inning and 12 K's From Carr Power Baseball Past Pace, 7-3

Pleasantville, N.Y. — After a series opening over Pace on Friday afternoon, head coach Bill Ianniciello and the Adelphi baseball team returned to the field on Saturday for game two of their weekend series against the Setters.

The 'Cats started the game off hot, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning courtesy of a Bryan McCleary RBI fielders choice.

Pace tried to tie it up in the bottom half, but starter Jack Carr was able to work out of trouble leaving Pace scoreless.

Adelphi was quiet in the second and the Setters were able to tie the game at one a piece after a solo home run. Carr settled down after the dinger and struck out the next two batters.

The third inning was when the 'Cats were able to strike. Matt Ryan set the table with a leadoff double, followed by a Greyson Pizzonia walk and James Eden single. With the bases loaded and nobody on, Alex Rende drove in Ryan on a sacrifice fly to regain Adelphi the lead. Joe Pellegrino walked, relaxing the bases for McCleary who drove in two more runs on a single. This forced Pace to make a pitching change, but it would not be as successful as they hoped. Albert Ramos would immediately single to right field, loading the bases once again for Adelphi. Jack Tate was next up and reached on a fielders choice. Pace threw the ball around, allowing two more Panther runs to score and putting the visitors up 6-1.

The five run lead was enough for Carr as he finished the game with a superb line of 7.0 innings pitched, three hits, one earned, no walks and 12 strikeouts.

Adelphi scored once more in the top of the fifth on a Jack Wishner RBI single.

Pace tried to get back in the game in the bottom of the eighth, scoring two but Michael Tufo closed to door and the Panthers won game two of the series, 7-3.

The 'Cats return to the field tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Garden City, looking for a sweep.
