Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Donnellan Leads in #1 Men's Lacrosse Win at Mercy, 15-7

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.Braden Donnellan led the team with eight points in a 15-6 victory for No. 1 Adelphi men's lacrosse against No. 15 Mercy University on Saturday.

Donnellan was one of three players who recorded four or more points, as Noah Gibson accounted for six and Michael Durnin contributed four. The trio led the Cats in scoring, with seven different Panthers tallying a goal in the victory.

Defense proved to be the name of the game, as the hosting Mavericks committed 17 turnovers, with Adelphi players forcing nine of them. At X, William Greaves went 13-for-21 with a team-high nine ground balls. In a relatively clean game on the visitors' part, Mercy players accumulated over five minutes in penalties.

Durnin scored the Panthers' first two goals, with his first coming after causing an early turnover on netminder Cameron Dorfman. Within two minutes of taking a 2-0 lead, Gibson and Vincent McDermott extended it to 4-0, while Mercy saw only one concrete offensive possession. Eventually, the Mavericks got on the board and even cut their deficit in half by the end of the opening frame.

With three extra-man opportunities, Adelphi capitalized in the second quarter, adding three man-up goals to their seven total in the period. At the break, the Mavericks trailed 11-6.

The visitors slowed things down in the second half, adding only three more tallies in the third, courtesy of Donnellan and Durnin. Mercy managed one goal in the frame but was held scoreless over the final 15 minutes of action.

Head Coach Gordon Purdie and his squad pack their bags and head west for three out-of-region contests, starting with Concordia Irvine on Thursday, March 6.
