Seniors Combine for 43 in Women's Hoops Win Over Saint Michael's

Garden City, N.Y. - As the Panthers celebrated the 2025 edition of Senior Day, the Adelphi University women's basketball team won its contest inside the Center for Recreation & Sport against Saint Michael's College, by a final score of 65-37

Kaitlyn O'Connell got the all-senior starting lineup on the board with her driving layup three minutes after tip. Her and Rolanda Robinson tallied ten of the first 12 Adelphi points, capped off by the latter's three-point make to tie the game up. Isabella Asencio gave the 'Cats the lead with less than a minute until the buzzer, as the quarter ended with a slight home lead.

After Ruby Santos knotted up the score once more shortly into the next set of 10, the Brown and Gold erupted for a 17-3 run through the halftime horn. The trio of O'Connell, Robinson, and Asencio ended their first 20 minutes with a combined 23 points as Adelphi led 33-19. Christina Sanchez also tied Robinson with two steals, while Lauren Beberman swatted three shots back.

O'Connell joined Lateisha Willis in the party of early second half scoring, with the two combining for the first eight points. In what ended as a 20-6 third quarter in favor of the hosts, the defense held the Purple Knights to a 15% clip in the frame. Conversely, the 'Cats shot 8/13, for their best mark on the afternoon.

While the final quarter proved to be a more even matchup, the damage from the Panthers had already been done. Saint Michael's ended the game shooting 24% from the field, and just 1/22 from behind the three-point line. 13 steals combined with five blocks solidifed the outstanding defensive performance, as the Brown and Gold moved to 8-9 in conference play.

Head Coach Sade Jackson and the Panthers will be back in action on Wednesday, February 19 when they travel to Pace. Game time from Pleasantville, N.Y. is set for 5:30 p.m.
