Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Snaps Skid with Win Over Franklin Pierce

Garden City, N.Y. - On the backs of 56 combined points from Kaitlyn O'Connell (27), Rolanda Robinson (15), and Christina Sanchez (14), the Adelphi University women's basketball team snapped its four-game losing streak against Franklin Pierce University Saturday afternoon inside the Center for Recreation & Sport, by a final score of 71-48.

While it took over two minutes for points to reach the board, the Panthers came out strong for the loud Alumni Day crowd. An early 6-0 run sparked by Robinson's four set the tone. The Brown and Gold used this momentum to end the first frame with a nine point lead, with Robinson scoring nine points in the quarter on her own.

O'Connell and Sanchez used a pair of three balls to extend the lead to 15 by midway through the second. O'Connell's third deep shot of the day displayed the luck the 'Cats had on their side in the first half, taking a couple bounces before rattling home.

The real tear of shots from beyond the arc came in the third frame, when O'Connell hit three in just 2:40 of action. In the end, all but two of Adelphi's 21 third quarter points came from the trio of O'Connell, Robinson, or Sanchez.

More of the same ensued in the final set of 10, with the Panthers winning all four quarters by the final buzzer. Me'Challe Cancer tallied four points and two steals in the final four minutes of the game. Lauren Beberman had four swipes, with Robinson and Sanchez chipping in three and two of their own, respectively. O'Connell's 27 was the second 25+ point performance she's had this season, with a career-high of 30 being set on 1/11.

Head Coach Sade Jackson and the Panthers will go back on the road starting on Wednesday, February 5 when they square off against American International. Game time from Springfield, Mass. is set for 5:30 p.m.
