Walton, Rancy Lift Men's Basketball Over AIC in Defensive Battle

Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi men's basketball won its third game in a row, taking down American International College 60-44 in a defensive slugfest.

Series History: 

  • Adelphi moves to 23-9 all-time against AIC, giving the Panthers a three-game win streak over the Yellow Jackets. The last matchup featured a 26 point outburst from former All-Conference player Andres Fulgencio in a 75-61 Adelphi win.

Highlights:

  • Dayshaun Walton was the team's leading scorer for the second game in a row, once again scoring 25 points. The senior shot 10-18 from the floor and continued his hot stretch from beyond the arc, shooting 4-8 from three. Walton was in a tie for being the team's second best rebounder, grabbing nine boards.

  • Jarnel Rancy had his best game of the young season, recording a 10 point, 11 rebound double-double. The nation's best shot blocker tied his Adelphi-high with eight blocks in the contest, narrowly missing the first triple-double of his career.

  • Al-Fatir Connor tied his career-high in steals with five.

  • Mason Jackson brought down nine rebounds, adding three points, three steals and an assist.

How It Happened:

  • The first half was a game of runs for both teams. After being tied at 12 with just over 12 minutes to play in the period, Adelphi tipped off a 13-0 run with buckets from Walton, Rancy, Patrick Burke, Zakari McQueen and Al-Fatir Connor

  • Adelphi led 28-18 with 4:15 remaining in the half before AIC outscored the Panthers 13-3 in the final minutes to send both teams in their respective locker rooms tied at 31.

  • The second half was when the Panthers completely took over. Adelphi held the Yellow Jackets to just 13 points, forcing them to shoot 19.2% from the field and 13.3% from three. 

  • During the final 20 minutes, the Rancy blocked seven shots while the Cats outrebounded AIC 25-16 and scored 15 points off turnovers compared to the visitor's four.

  • The Panthers ended the game leading for 35 minutes and 36 seconds.
