Men's Basketball Dominates the Paint in 84-63 Win Over Chestnut Hill

Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi men's basketball won its second game in a row, defeating Chestnut Hill 84-63 in the program's 2025 home opener at the Center for Recreation and Sport
 

Series History: 

  • Adelphi moves to 7-0 all-time against Chestnut Hill, with its last matchup being a 71-50 victory over the Griffins on Nov. 23, 2024 in Philadelphia. 

Highlights:

  • Dayshaun Walton was the team's leading scorer with 25 points, shooting an impressive 11-14 from the floor while making two of his four three-point attempts. The senior also recorded a career-high five steals.

  • Al-Fatir Connor put up his first 20 point performance of the season, slashing his way to a 8-12 shooting performance.

  • Mason Jackson scored 15 points and corralled eight rebounds while recording two assists.

  • Jarnel Rancy narrowly missed his first double-double of the season, scoring 11 points on a perfect 5-5 shooting and grabbing nine rebounds. Rancy blocked three shots and added six assists.

How It Happened:

  • Chestnut Hill battled in the first half to keep the game close, but Adelphi's (5-1) physicality led to a 30-10 margin in points in the paint and a 13 point lead at the break.

  • The Panthers were aggressive defensively, forcing 13 turnovers while only turning the ball over seven times. This led to a 28-11 margin in points off of turnovers.

  • Al-Fatir Connor scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half, all of them being in the paint. 

  • Trailing by 16 with 18:12 remaining in the second half, Chestnut Hill clawed its way back to cut the deficit down to seven with a little over ten minutes to play in the game.

  • Adelphi responded by going back to where they had success in the first half, the paint. The Panthers shot 18-27 in the second period, scoring another 30 points inside of the paint. 

  • While struggling from three, the Panthers ended the game with 60 paint points and shot at 58.1% for the game, while the Griffins shot 40.4%

Up Next: 

  • The Panthers will be back in action on Wednesday, December 3, when they host American International College. Tip from the Center for Recreation and Sport is set for 7:30 p.m.
