Consistent Scoring Lifts Women's Basketball Over Queens, 75-46

Garden City, N.Y. - With points from 10 of the 12 players that touched the floor, the Adelphi University women's basketball team used a balanced offense to stump Queens College on Tuesday evening, 75-46. 

Series History:
  • With tonight's win, the Panthers are now 22-3 all time against Queens College, dating back to January 10, 2001. 
  • The two teams have not matched up in almost 10 years, with the last meeting taking place on December 16, 2015. 
  • Adelphi has won five straight and 12 of the last 13 matchups. 
Highlights:
  • The Panthers (3-1) had five players in double-digit scoring, with Me'Challe Cancer leading the way with 13. of her four field goals made, three came from beyond the arc where she shot 50 percent for the contest. 
  • Victoria Morales, Christina Sanchez and Gamila Betton chipped in 11, 10 and 10, to round out the starters in double-figures. 
  • Lauren Beberman dished out a team-leading five assists and added five steals and one block. 
  • The home team bench accounted for 27 points as Madison Williams contributed 10. 
How It Happened:
  • The home team shot almost 50 percent from the floor in the opening quarter, and scored 12 of their 18 points inside the paint. Adelphi doubled the rebounds of the Knights (1-4) at a 10-5 advantage but both teams had a slew of turnovers in the first 10 minutes of action. 
  • The Knights let the single digit deficit slip away as the Panthers ran up the score to reach a 21 point separation at the halftime break. The Cats outscored Queens 22-8 in the second overall and shot 53 percent from the field with a perfect clip at the charity stripe. 
  • In the third, the Brown and Gold capitalized on Knight miscues, scoring 11 points off turnovers - as they finished with 29 off mistakes for the game. 
  • Adelphi's largest lead of the contest occurred with 8:29 left in the fourth when Elizabeth Healy knocked down her first career three-pointer to extend the host advantage to 34. 
  • Queens ultimately won the fourth quarter at 16-15, but the deficit was too great to overcome.
