Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Asencio's Career Night Leads Women's Hoops to Win Over Caldwell

Garden City, N.Y. - With the help of a career-high 31 points from Isabella Asencio, the Adelphi University women's basketball team opened the 2025-26 campaign with a 73-62 victory over Caldwell.

Series History:
  • Adelphi evened the all-time record with the Cougars, now winning the last two consecutive meetings - dating back to 2007.
Highlights:
  • Four players reached double-figures, including Asencio's 31.
  • Newcomer Victoria Morales and Madison Williams both shot 50 percent from the field and accounted for 13 and 11, respectively. From three-point range, Morales knocked down three triples.
  • Christina Sanchez collected 10 points, two steals and block while Lauren Beberman led on the boards with a team-high nine. She also tallied four blocks and four steals in the win.
How It Happened:
  • Adelphi led by eight after the opening quarter, due largely in part to the Panthers 10 points off turnovers. They ultimately capitalized on the Cougar miscues to score 32 points compared to Caldwell's 14.
  • After a frame in favor of the Cougars, Adelphi still managed to hold a six-point lead going into the locker room at halftime. The second included a career milestone for Jah'Nel Lewis of Caldwell, who scored her 1,000th career point. The third quarter was all Caldwell as Adelphi's offense got a little cold (shooting just 26 percent from the field).
  • The home team put up impressive numbers in the fourth, going a combined 10-for-15 from the field to close out the contest, including a 3-for-4 performance beyond the arc.
  • Both teams shot 43 percent from the field for the opener, but Adelphi's dominance in the first and fourth allowed them to hold on for the win.
Up Next:
  • Adelphi will host day two of the CACC/NE10 Challenge and take on Dominican (N.Y.) on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1:00 p.m.
