Women's Soccer Battles At So. New Hampshire, Loses 1-0

Manchester, NH - In its penultimate regular season contest, the Adelphi University women's soccer team played to a 1-0 loss at Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium.

The opening frame was spent largely inside of the Penmen's offensive end, as they managed six shots - one on goal - before kicking in the eventual game winner in the 28th minute.  From beyond the box, SNHU's Georgia Green got enough on the ball to sneak it past a diving Peyton DeRouen, to take the 1-0 lead.

From there it went back and forth, with the home team landing another shot nearly 10 minutes later, which was cleared out by Sarah Winnegar. Adelphi (8-6, 4-4 NE10) was granted a corner opportunity late in the half, but Kayleigh Goodrich's attempt off her head was unable to fall.

Going into the halftime break, the hosts held a 9-1 advantage in shots.

Four minutes went by before either team took a shot, with the Penmen once again trying to add to their one-goal lead. With both off target, it was Adelphi's opportunity to net an equalizer.

A flurry of shots - taken by Goodrich, Bethany Solari, Sophia Cataldo and Madison Apicella - taken over a span of six minutes, were all stopped by SNHU keeper Claudia Keith.

One goal was enough for the Penmen to hold on to the victory, and send Adelphi back to Garden City with one more game to go in the regular season.

The team hosts Pace University on Wednesday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m. on Motamed Field.
