Garden City, N.Y. - Following the recognition of its senior class, the Adelphi University men's soccer team went on to suffer a 4-1 loss to Franklin Pierce University on Saturday.
After entering the poll this week at no. 23, the Panthers (7-5-3, 4-3-1 NE10) collected back-to-back losses, being outscored 6-2.
The Ravens warmed right up in a blustery Garden City, scoring a pair of goals in a matter of three minutes to get themselves on the board. From there, the Panthers were forced to play catch up, only seeing a glimpse of offense from
Ryan Holt in the 18th minute for the entire frame.
After a stop from
Andrea Farinella off the foot of Stepan Fiker, the Ravens' Joao Araujo netted the team's third goal of the half. The Panthers conceded an unfortunate own goal to close out the first half, which gave Franklin Pierce their fourth tally of the contest.
With a mountain to climb, the Panthers went to work, firing a trio of shots toward David Skorodumov, hoping to cut into their deficit. The second half saw
Gianluca Intranuovo in goal for Adelphi, who stopped one attempt from the Ravens and faced three shots of his own in his stretch of net minding.
Head Coach
Gary Book substituted
Santiago Arango to close out the match for the home team in goal, and the duo put together a clean sheet for the second half, each picking up a save.
Richard DeBrosse was the lone goal-scorer for the Panthers, as he took a second chance effort to bury a shot with his right foot into the back left corner in the 86th minute. A clean cross from the right side saw DeBrosse put his first attempt into a defender, but he capitalized on the space to eliminate the chance of a shutout.
Time unfortunately expired before the hosts had the chance to use their newfound momentum to stage a comeback.
Adelphi will cap the regular season with a 7:00 p.m. kick off at Pace University on Wednesday, November 5.
