Men's Soccer Drops Close Contest to No. 3 Southern New Hampshire

Manchester, N.H. — The Adelphi men's soccer team traveled to Southern New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon for an NE10 tilt with the no. 3 ranked team in the country.

Sam Nolan gave the Panthers an early chance, recording the first shot on goal in the tenth minute. Two minutes later, Andrea Farinella had to make a pair of saves but kept the game scoreless.

Adelphi was able to muster another shot on goal but it was stopped by the SNHU keeper. Momentum started to turn in favor of the home team and in the 27th minute they struck for a 1-0 lead.

After falling behind the Panthers turned up the heat and recorded six shots for the remainder of the half but none found the back of the net as they went into the locker room still trailing.

Adelphi tried to get into a rhythm early on but once again, their chances were stopped by the Penmen. Southern New Hampshire was able to counter and went up two goals to none in the 53rd minute.

Unlike the first half when they responded with a flurry of shots after conceding, the Panthers were not able to record another shot for over 25 minutes. Nolan got some offensive juices flowing and then in the 81st minute, Rory Duggan scored to make it a one goal game.

A Jad Abbas attempt was Adelphi's best chance to tie but it was saved once again by the Penmen keeper as the Panthers fell 2-1.

Head coach Gary Book and the Panthers will return to the field on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host Assumption.
