Waltham, Mass. — Head coach Brooke DeRosa and the Adelphi women's soccer team returned to the field on Saturday afternoon after an eight goal performance on Tuesday.
As she has all season, Kayleigh Goodrich kickstarted the Panther offense in the third minute with a strike from outside of the box to give Adelphi an early lead.
The Brown and Gold continued to put the pressure on Bentley with Goodrich, Kara DeBlaiso, Bethany Solari and Dylann Tracey having chances at goal that were ultimately saved by the Falcon keeper.
Adelphi had the offensive edge for a majority of the half until the 40th minute when Bentley had their best chance of the period, rocketing a shot off of the crossbar. DeBlaiso would respond with a shot off of the crossbar herself and the game would go into the break with the Panthers holding a 1-0 lead.
The beginning of the second half was a bit of a different story as Bentley came out firing with two shots in the first four minutes. Goodrich then came down the field with two shots of her own, one of them hitting the crossbar and the back and forth was on.
The NE10 foes would trade possessions for the next several minutes before Bentley finally broke through, tying the game in the 68th minute.
So far this season, Adelphi has had trouble responding from allowing late goals but today that was not the case. Just five minutes after conceding the tying goal, a Goodrich through-ball sprung Madison Apicella free and she buried the second Panther goal into the top of the net.
Adelphi retained possession for most of the remaining time with Emily Aridas making a clutch save in the 88th minute to secure the Adelphi victory.
The Panthers will return to the field on Saturday when they host American International College at 7 p.m.
