Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Bests AIC 4-0 on Senior Night

Garden City, N.Y. — The Adelphi women's soccer team returned to the field on Saturday night to take on American International College.

Before the game Peyton DeRouen, Julia Craig, Gia Mandile, Sarah Kent, Julia DeMicco, Dylann Trahey and Madison Apicella were honored for senior night.

It took a couple minutes for the Panther offense to kick into gear but once it did, it resulted in a fantastic goal from Apicella. In the 28th minute, the senior diced up the AIC defense and on what was thought by some to be an attempt at a cross scored on a long range goal from the right side of the box for a 1-0 Adelphi lead.

The Panthers controlled the ball for the rest of the half, going into the break up one. The second half continued to be more of the same for Adelphi as the home team dominated possession and kept the ball in AIC's zone.

It took 11 shots and over 30 minutes but finally the Brown and Gold domination resulted in a second goal when Kayleigh Goodrich potted her tenth of the season on a free kick just outside of the box.

From there, the dominoes finally fell for Adelphi and the goals came in bunches. Just three minutes later, Apicella scored her second of the game after stealing the ball from a Yellow Jacket defender and less than two minutes after that, Sarah Kent scored her first of the year.

The final five minutes were smooth sailing for the Cats as they walked away with a 4-0 win.

Head coach Brooke DeRosa and the Adelphi women's soccer team will return to the field Wednesday when they travel up to Gannon for a noon kickoff.
