Colchester, Vt. — Head coach Brooke DeRosa and the Adelphi women's soccer team took on Saint Michael's in a Northeast 10 matinee on Saturday.
The Panthers got off to a hot start, with Kayleigh Goodrich and Madison Apicella registering shots in the first two minutes, but as time went on, the pace of play evened out.
A Sarah Kent attempt at goal was saved in the 16th minute, followed by two more shots from Goodrich in the next ten minutes. The Purple Knights made some lineup changes and, in the 28th minute, struck for the first goal of the game.
With Adelphi back on its heels, Goodrich had another shot attempt blocked before Saint Michael's shuffled its lineup once again. The changes proved fruitful for the home team, as they took a 2-0 lead in the 37th minute — a score that would hold until halftime.
In the early stages of the second half, the Panthers continued to get looks at goal but could not convert, as shots were either blocked or saved by the keeper.
Saint Michael's had its first true offensive chance of the half in the 65th minute and capitalized. A save from Emily Aridas trickled back to the home team, and seconds later, Saint Michael's extended its lead to 3-0.
Adelphi fought for the remainder of the game, and Madison Howard hit the post in the 88th minute, but the Panthers would fall 3-0 on the road.
The Adelphi women's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 1, when it travels to Southern New Hampshire.
