Men's Soccer Earns Hard-Fought Draw at No. 7 Bentley

Waltham, Mass. — The Adelphi men's soccer team took a trip up to Bentley on Saturday afternoon for a date with the No. 7-ranked team in the country.

The Falcons pushed the offensive tempo early, recording the first shot of the game, but Adelphi came back with two of their own, with Matthew Murphy and Alessio Consoli attempting to score.

Bentley flexed its muscles early and responded to the Adelphi pressure with the first goal of the game and a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute.

Although trailing early to one of the top teams in the country, the Panthers would not go away as they continued to push the ball into Bentley's end.

In the 43rd minute, Adelphi was awarded a free kick in a dangerous spot outside the box. The ball was swung in, and the initial shot from Stephen Betz was saved by the Falcons' goalkeeper, but sophomore Zain Suterwalla was opportunistic and connected with the loose ball for the first goal of his career and a tie game right before halftime.

The second half started quickly for the Panthers as Rory Duggan, Ryan Holy, and Sam Nolan all saw chances at goal, but none could convert. The Panthers, who have been defensively driven all season, quieted the Bentley attack as the home team recorded only three shots in the second half to Adelphi's 10.

Gary Book's squad owned the tempo and momentum for the remainder of the game, but Bentley's Cam Hall was just too good between the pipes, making seven saves and keeping the Panthers from pulling off the upset.

Jad Abbas threatened in the 88th minute, but the shot was pushed aside, and Adelphi earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

Book and the Panthers will return to the field on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they take on Bridgeport in a non-conference game.
