Field Hockey’s Big First Half Leads to 5-1 Win Over AIC

Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi University field hockey team earned a 5–1 victory over American International College on Saturday afternoon, highlighted by a dominant first half.

The Panthers set the tone early, striking twice in the first 15 minutes of play. The first to get on the board was Katie Dettore, who led a breakaway and ripped a forehand swing from just inside the scoring circle to get things going for the visitors.

Shortly after, Lana Mignon De Wet - the team's leading scorer - extended the lead with the help of Dettore.

With a 2-0 lead in the second quarter, Caroline Beakes capitalized on another breakaway and connected with Jenna Geels on a cross for an easy tap-in, pushing the lead to three. De Wet then tallied her second goal of the game, finishing off a scramble in front of the goal with Kelly Johnson providing the assist.

The Yellow Jackets responded with their first tally of the game, scoring on starting goalkeeper Allison Gregory to cut into Adelphi's four-goal cushion.

However, the Panthers quickly restored their four-goal advantage when Olivia Docyk notched the first goal of her career, capping off an exciting second period.

After the break, the pace slowed, with neither team finding the back of the net in the second half. Geels, Izzy Leclair, De Wet, and Sydney Rossacci each tested the opposing goalkeeper in the third quarter, but none were able to convert.

In the final period, the Brown and Gold continued to apply pressure, firing 15 total shots—13 of which were on goal. The opposition's defense held firm, with goalkeeper Quinlyn Moll and backline combining to stop all 13 attempts.Moll ended the contest with 20 saves.

With Adelphi's offense dominating time of possession and building a commanding lead in the first half, the hosts were unable to mount a comeback, securing the Panthers' 5–1 win.

Head coach Jess Mulhern and the Panthers return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 28, when they welcome the Lions of Molloy University to Motamed Field for a 7:00 p.m. matchup. As part of the Adelphi Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's Roar and Rally initiative, fans are encouraged to wear black to support the team.
