Men's Soccer Wins Third Straight With 2-0 Victory Over AIC

Garden City, N.Y. — After a thrilling win over Queens on Wednesday, the Adelphi men's soccer team returned to the field on Saturday night for a tilt with American International College.

Right from the opening kick the Adelphi offense was in gear, earning a corner kick in the second minute before a Sam Nolan shot was saved.

The Panther offense kept on chugging and found its first goal in the ninth minute from Ryan Holt. Rory Duggan ran down the field and passed it to the sophomore who muscled his way past an AIC defender before scoring.

The Yellow Jackets made a flurry of subs but it could not slow down the Adelphi attack. The AIC keeper kept his team in the game and made a big save on a penalty kick to keep the Cats at bay. While it felt like it could have been a larger lead the Panthers only led by one heading into the break.

In half number two, Gary Book's squad picked up right where they left off. Just seven minutes into the period a free kick was awarded to the Panthers. Nolan swung a beautiful ball into the box and it bounced perfectly to Lucas Nicolaou. The defender collected the cross and tucked it away for a 2-0 Adelphi lead.

The remaining time in the second half was a chess match but Adelphi continued to control the ball. The Yellow Jackets were only able to muster three shots (one on goal, that Andrea Farinella stopped) to the Brown and Gold's 20 as the home team won 2-0.

Book and the Panthers return to the field on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they host Southern Connecticut State.
