Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Strong Second Half from AIC Leads to Women's Basketball Loss, 61-47

Garden City, N.Y. - Highlighted by a 31-3 run from the opposition, the Adelphi University women's basketball team dropped its game against American International College Wednesday evening, by a final score of 61-47

Setting the pace in the first frame were the Panthers, who shot 9-15 across the first ten minutes. The 60% clip came from all around, as no individual scored more than four points. A 7-1 run ended the quarter with the 'Cats holding an early nine point advantage.

Shooting didn't come as easy in the second set of ten, with both teams combining for a 7-31 performance from the field. Defense began to anchor down for the Brown and Gold, as the Yellow Jackets were held to a 28.6% clip. All 23 points from AIC were scored by three players, in Ruzgar Christina Boyle (11), Keyvanna Bennett (7), and Chelsea Reeves (5).

Isabella Asencio spread and scored the rock the most, with three assists and six points in the first half. Rolanda Robinson led the team in rebounds with six.

The second half was an exacerbation of the shooting struggles from the latter end of the first half, as Adelphi would only score five points in the third quarter. This came at a 2-11 clip from the field, aided by Victoria Morgan's layup with four seconds to play.

While the final frame was played more evenly, the Panthers weren't able to keep up with AIC's scoring attack. Christina Boyle scored eight of her eventual 22 in the fourth, including two deep shots. Peyton Grant would hit four from beyond the arc in the second half alone, ending with 12 points of her own.

Head Coach Sade Jackson and Adelphi will continue their homestand on Saturday, January 11 against Southern New Hampshire. Tip-off time from the Center for Recreation and Sport is slated for 1:30 p.m.
